Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to assess and score candidates in the Express Entry pool. This system ranks eligible profiles under three main federal economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates are awarded points based on a set of profile factors including age, level of education, official language proficiency in English or French, and Canadian and foreign work experience.

In addition to core human capital factors, candidates can earn points for skill transferability and additional factors such as a provincial nomination, a qualifying offer of arranged employment, post-secondary education in Canada, French language capability, or a sibling residing in Canada as a citizen or permanent resident. IRCC regularly issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence to the highest-scoring candidates in the pool through regular Express Entry draws.
